Driving school classroom instruction in Charleston

We started Mike's Driving Academy because Charleston deserved better.

Most driving schools rush through lessons to hit a quota. We do the opposite — we take the time until you feel genuinely ready. Not just ready for the DMV road test, but ready for the real thing: busy King Street traffic, bridge crossings, and those tricky roundabouts that catch everyone off guard.

Founded by Mike, a Charleston native with over 15 years of behind-the-wheel experience, our academy combines patient, one-on-one instruction with a curriculum that actually prepares you for South Carolina driving — not just the test.

What Students Say

Hear from people who
passed with confidence.

Our students don't just pass their road tests — they drive with real confidence afterward.

"I was terrified of driving before Mike's academy. By my third lesson, I felt comfortable on King Street. Passed my road test on the first try — something I never thought I'd say."

Sarah M. Beginner Course Student

"My teenager had no interest in learning to drive. Mike made it engaging and actually fun. Six weeks later, she's confidently driving everywhere on her own. Can't recommend this place enough."

David R. Parent of Student

"I moved to Charleston from out of state and needed to get licensed fast. The private lessons were exactly what I needed — focused, efficient, and no wasted time. Got my license in two weeks."
